Despite this, the information from the Google quantum computer was made public. The operation of the new machine is based on the principles of quantum physics. It is precisely these principles that allow this type of equipment to exceed conventional computers in speed far.
Quantum computers are devices that store data and carry out calculations using the principles of quantum physics. For some workloads, they can outperform even our finest supercomputers, which can be pretty advantageous.
Traditional computers, such as laptops and smartphones, encode data using binary “bits” that may either be 0s or 1s. However, a quantum bit, or qubit, is the fundamental building block.
Qubits stand still made, utilising physical systems, such as an electron’s spin or a photon’s orientation. Quantum superposition is these systems’ ability to exist in several configurations at once. Quantum entanglement, a phenomenon, may also be used to link qubits. As a consequence, a group of qubits can concurrently represent several things.
For instance, using just eight bits, a traditional computer can represent any integer between 0 and 255. Therefore, a few hundred entangled qubits would be equivalent to more atoms than there are in the universe.
What happens is that classic processors operate only with bits. These save the information with only zeros or ones. However, Google’s new processor works with qubits, where each bit can present the two values simultaneously, according to the law of quantum physics. In this way, when combining two qubits, four possible states are obtained that overlap. With three, there are already eight, and with four qubits, there are 16 different states simultaneously. This fundamental difference allows quantum computers to take the lead.
